It’s monsoon time and it is the
best time to decorate and give a new look to your garden and balcony. Plants
require special care during monsoon season.
In the monsoon season plantsneed special care to prevent them from damage and getting them destroyed.
Although it is the best time for gardening and landscaping, but still few steps
are required which need to be taken in order to prevent foliage. Due to
excessive humidity and water, strong winds, and presence of too much salt in
the air plants can be adversely affected.
Monsoon is the season for
flowering shrub and fruit-bearing trees, Plants have an easing time after
planting in this humidity and rainfall. Due to soft and moist ground, it is
easy to turn and plants gets settle in without facing heat of summer. By
following few steps and attention it is easier to plant all sizes of trees and
shrubs.
Proper drainage
In the monsoon season, water
logging should be taken care firstly. Flower beds must be raised little bit in
order to ensure them from water logging. Before planting plants in pots, check
the drainage holes by filling the water in pots, water should be drained out.
In order to encourage new plant
growth, appearance of plants and overall shape, trim and prune the gardenplants prior to monsoon. Ideal time would be in summer or pre-monsoon.
Landscaping Types
Divide the garden into soft and
hard landscape. Hard landscapes consist of rocks and pathways whereas soft
landscapes consist of trees, flowers, plants.
Soft landscapes require specialcare during monsoon. Due to excessive rain plants can be damaged. Trimming of
plants should be done prior to monsoon, tie small shrubs with rope. Check the
roots, because if they are not firmly rooted in the ground or pot than rain
water can easily wash away the plants.
Lawn mower is really helpful in
cutting grass in the garden. Cut the grass short and ensure if the grass is
protected from excessive mud.
Plants require watering to grow
and flourish. Rain water is the best water for them to grow as it is free of
chlorine. Plants are rejuvenated from Rain water. Thus, in light showers keep
the plants outside sheds atleast once a week.
In monsoon season, chances of
plants getting infected with slugs and snails are very prominent. Thus it
requires safeguarding. Small steps can help you preventing your plants from
them. Just clear the dead or decaying leaves and wet garden trash. Copper wire
twined around the pots. This gives a non-lethal shock and keeps snails and
slugs away from plants. Some other alternatives are; crushed egg shells, ground
coffee beans and wood ash around pots. A ring of Vaseline smeared on the pots
also works.

The Difference Between The Vedic And The Western Systems by guru Vinod Ji

The Zodiac is an imaginary ring in the sky which encircles our solar
system like a girdle. To determine the positions of the planets on
this circle we need some reference point, a point which will remain
fixed while the heavenly bodies keep moving.
The seers of Vedic Astrology took a faraway star which remains stationary and the position of the planets were determined by referring them to this fixed star cluster. This is known as the sidereal system. Sidereal means measured by stars. The fixed star cluster chosen for the purpose is taken as the 1st degree of Aries, the starting point of the Indian Zodiac.
The Western system also uses a fixed reference point but utilises the equinoxes for the purpose. Interestingly, 1st degree of Aries is yet again the starting point of the Western Zodiac. But the major difference is that the position of the Sun on Vernal equinox (the first day of spring) is taken as the 1st degree of Aries. This works equally well because the Sun moves 360° in a year. This is known as the Tropical Zodiac.
Taking two different reference points does not make one system valid and the other invalid. In fact, one can be mathematically deduced from the other. Ancient Indians were aware of this. They knew that, because of the perpetual titling of the earth the equinoxes moved approximately 1° in every 72 years. So, they introduced the idea of 'Ayanamsha' to accommodate the procession of the equinoxes (Ayanchalan).
Hence, the Western Tropical Zodiac is called 'Sayan' (with Ayan) i.e., with the procession of equinoxes and the Sidereal Zodiac is called 'Nirayan' (without Ayan) where this is ignored.
The planets and the houses in both systems are the same. There are some differences in approach. For example, in Indian Astrology the most important reference point in a Horoscope is the 1st house known as Ascendant while in the Western System the Sun occupies the central place.

Mars is a hot planet and plays a very important role in our horoscopes.
It is the planet of action and our capacity to project emotion - its
nature is that of a brave warrior, one who is also ruthless and rash .
A correct balance of Martian energy is most desirable in all lives -
but unfortunately, only a lucky few possess this dynamic balance. Mars
is the planet of emotional excitability, which can become violent at
the slightest instigation. Mars is exalted in Capricorn a sign owned by Saturn that depicts discipline, it is quite evident that once
Martian energy is harmonized and made to act in a disciplined fashion
it can be a very powerful and auspicious force in our lives.
On the positive side, a strong Mars is necessary to give us the energy, independence, will and self-confidence to carry out our endeavors. Without this we would have no real interest, passion or motivation to carry out anything to an end and accomplish its objective. On the negative side, the same aggression brings about competition, argument and conflict - which, if unchecked can lead to domination, violence, injury and disaster .
Mars indicates premature death; as with loss of partner, particularly so when Mars is afflicted by "Kujadosha". This affliction of Mars in a chart commonly makes the horoscope to be known as a Manglik horoscope. It is caused by placement of Mars in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th, 12th house of a natal chart. There are of course conditions when this affliction of "Kujadosha" is reduced.

Did gods create mankind, or did mankind create gods?

book by Ajay Kansal deals with establishing the fact that anthropologies and histories lead to one conclusion – mankind created gods!
The writer starts off with a very arresting question in the preface – Why are there many religions but only one science on the earth and you would expect a atheist’s rant coming along in the next 200 odd pages. But he surprises with the balance and poise of his argument with never the book turning onto an anti-theist track. Ajay Kansal takes us along on the journey of the evolution of mankind from the nomadic human to the agriculturist to the social animal by tracing his religious evolution.
He tells us that the religious journey of man began right in his nomadic days with abundant mysteries of nature boggling him scared like night, animals, pregnancy, ghosts, etc. This fear of man gave birth to the concept of a superhuman somewhere with immense powers – the very concept of god. Nomadic man began worshipping the things that relived him from his fears – Fire, Sun and Sky and thus began nature worship. Later with him turning to agriculture the fear of food scarcity came in and with it developed the fertility cult – the worship of the goddess. Agriculture led to settlements that led to diseases, which proved another mystery for human minds, and up came the concept of a punishing god – The Yahweh of Judaism. The beliefs were prominent that diseases are punishments from the super power and ways to please the punishing god were sort out which led to the barbaric practice to sacrifices – human and animal. With the punishment culture settling in, came the problems of cruelty, injustice and exploitation which it required some relief. This requirement of mankind gets fulfilled in the form of a kind merciful god – Jesus of Christianity. While this was the story of the western side of the globe the eastern side too underwent similar change patterns with fire, sky and sun worships being followed in the name of yagnas leading to only affluent strata’s of the society understanding worships and gods. The need was simplification of religion and a prince-turned-ascetic is the answer – Buddha of Buddhism. With a major part of the population understanding and following Buddhism the priests of the earlier practiced religion of the land – Hinduism revamp the teachings to revolve around thousands of gods and millions of folklores about the gods, getting it back to be the favorite of the people.
Ajay Kansal has written an excellent book about the religious evolution of mankind filled with historical facts and scientific proofs. There is hardly any invalid talk that is not supported by hard facts concerning the discussion. Be it the proof of first human burials at Skhul caves in Israel or talk of a solar cult, with the Stonehenge in England and Konark in India as proofs of its existence, he talks in facts. While he talks about the temple snake healers in Greece, he also questions on why only domesticated animals like bull or goat were offered to the gods in sacrifice by priests; why not a tiger? He challenges the reader to question beliefs and rituals not for the faith but for their authenticity and need. He emphasizes that the creator for mankind is not god but ‘fear’ – fear creates gods and still keeps them alive, in spite of all facts and faults. Even while the biggest belief of humanity that diseases are the wrath of the gods, they are the demons possessing humans – something that led to the most gory and barbaric practices by mankind, the witch hunting episodes of the west and human sacrifices of the east – lays shattered owing to scientific advancements, modern fears still keeps the gods thriving.
A work that talks so well based on facts, is weakened some what in narration by the writer’s continuous projection of priests of every religion, in every era as clever self-centered beings who created gods, rituals, traditions etc. for more selfish reasons than social ones. Also the writer being a doctor and Hindu unwittingly emphasizes more on the chapters dealing with diseases and Hinduism, which form the two longest chapters in the book while an equal depth in other areas is missing.
Not one of the best books on the subject but a very decent one for overall understanding of Religious Evolution of Mankind which moved from new problems to new gods to new religions.
